Longreach House

Longreach House is our mental health hospital for the west of Cornwall. There are 2 acute psychiatric wards and 1 rehabilitation ward. There is also a health-based place of safety on site. Outpatient clinics are provided from the Bassett Unit, which is next door to Longreach House.

Protected mealtimes

The wards have protected mealtimes between midday and 1pm and from 5pm to 6pm.

Basset Unit

Open 8.45am to 5.15pm, Monday to Friday. Call 01209 318 960.

A number of mental health outpatient clinics are provided from the Basset Unit. Your appointment letter will provide more information but if you have any queries, get in touch.

Staff who work in the Basset Unit support people suffering from mental health problems who are over the age of 18.

The Basset Unit can be found on the left-hand side of Longreach House. It has its own reception.

Carbis Ward

Carbis Ward is an acute psychiatric unit. The ward offers assessment and treatment for people aged 18 and over, who are mainly from west Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

People are admitted to Carbis Ward if they are experiencing acute distress. They may also be admitted if there is a concern for their safety or the safety of others.

The ward has en-suite bedrooms and access to communal gardens and lounge areas. Other ward facilities include a gym, multi-faith room, therapy kitchen, and games room. The Occupational Therapy Team provide a range of activities and events on the ward.

Referrals to Carbis Ward is made through by our Home Treatment Team. This allows us to assess we are providing treatment in the best place for you.

Cove Ward

Cove Ward provides fast-track rehabilitation and support with recovery for people aged 18 or older. It supports people from across Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly.

People transfer to Cove Ward from either Carbis, Perran or Fletcher Wards. These are acute psychiatric unit.

The staff on Cove Ward provides care and support based on each person’s needs. The focus is on rehabilitation. This means the staff provide extra support to help people regain their independence. They will also work closely with your family or carers. The goal is to help you return to your home.

Cove Ward has en-suite bedrooms. There are communal lounges, gardens and therapy areas.

We encourage people on Cove Ward to take part in activities in the community. This could be taking a training course or joining a sports club. Staff will also help people with housing and money.

Perran Ward

Perran Ward is an acute psychiatric admissions unit. It offers assessment and treatment for people aged 18 or older, who are mainly from the south and west of Cornwall.

People are admitted to Perran Ward if they are experiencing acute distress. They may also be admitted if there is a concern for their safety or the safety of others.

The ward has 15 en-suite bedrooms and access to communal gardens and lounge areas. The Occupational Therapy Team provide a range of activities and events on the ward.

A health-based place of safety is next door to Perran Ward. This provides a safe place for the police to bring a person who is is in crisis and in need of Mental Health Act assessment.

How to contact your relative

Patients can use their own mobile telephones or tablets while on the ward. We also have iPads available and are happy to support patients to make video calls using these. Please ask a staff member for details.
