Volunteering for the Trust

There are lots of opportunities to volunteer with the Trust. You can volunteer in our community and mental health hospitals and day resource centres.

We recruit volunteers from our local community at all stages of life. This includes retired people, students, carers, people with lived experience and people in work or who are unemployed.

Volunteering is flexible, to suit your availability and fit in with your lifestyle.

If you can offer 2 to 3 hours a week, on a regular basis and are able to offer a minimum of 6 months, preferably longer, we would love to hear from you.

Volunteering is open to over 18's. There are some roles in community hospitals that are open to 16 and above.

The recruitment process involves an informal interview, references, training and most roles require a disclosure and barring check. For infection control purposes, ward and café volunteers must be bare below the elbow and nail varnish cannot be worn.

Opportunities for volunteers

  • Activity volunteers for our mental health wards and resource centres. This involves helping with or running groups such as art, quizzes, music, cookery, gardening, or exercise.
  • Dementia ward volunteers. These volunteers help with hymns, music and pub sing-alongs, or garden activities, reminiscence, and talking groups
  • Therapy dog volunteers for our community and mental health wards.
  • Befrienders, activity volunteers, and mealtime assistants for community hospital wards.
  • Meeters and greeters for Bodmin and Camborne Redruth community hospitals.
  • Spiritual and pastoral volunteers for community hospital wards.
  • Café volunteers at Camborne Redruth, Helston and St Austell community hospitals.

Benefits to you

Volunteering in the Trust provides the opportunity to take part in a range of roles, meet others and gain an insight into our work.

It allows people to use and enhance their skills, share knowledge, develop a sense of purpose, and increase their self-confidence. It also allows people to learn and gain experience in many areas of our organisation, which can help towards a career in health and social care.

There is also a feel good factor to volunteering.

Training

As a volunteer you will be provided with all relevant training for your role.
